Designed in 1955, the Jacobsen Series 7 Armchair continues to be one of the most popular chairs around due of its functionality, durability, flexibility and overall contemporary design. Designed by the famed Danish designer, Arne Jacobsen, 5 million of these chairs have been installed in homes and businesses around the world. Arne Jacobsen was a fascinating designer whose work was not limited to furniture. Though he had several legendary furniture designs, such as the Egg Chair and Swan Chair, he will also be remembered for his talents as an architect. Such projects as St. Catherine's College at Oxford, the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, and the Danish National Bank exhibit his Danish Modern Style.
Jacobsen was known to have many faces. As a designer, he was a perfectionist. In his non-professional life, he was known to have a fantastic sense of humor. He enjoyed making others laugh at his own expense. One famous story recalls Jacobsen betting friends that he would wear a melon as a hat.
